Fall Fiber Festival a HIT!

Well the fiber festival was a hit.  We had 8 people who attended our very first fiber festival and they all said they had a great time and planned on bringing along more people with them next year.  We did a great deal of fiber prep because people wanted to learn more about that and then we all sat and spun for about 3 hours.  Next year we will be starting earlier in the morning because we will have shearing, skirting and scouring of fleece.  I will see if I can dig up some pictures of the day.  I had my camera along, but as always totally forgot to pull it out.

Fiber Festival 3 more days

I can't believe it.  Only 3 more days till the fiber festival.  I think we have everything covered.  It will be an early morning getting down there to set things up, but I am really looking forward to it.  I will be sure to post some pictures from our day.  We are going to make this an annual event and grow it little by little, with hopes of getting the town involved with helping to sponsor portions of it.  I am glad I am not the only one working on it.  :)

Fiber Indie eXperience Co-op

Sounds interesting doesn't it!  Well in short this is a venture between a bunch of little home-based businesses.  We formed it together as a way to help each other out and grow our businesses.  What follows this the general idea behind F.I.X.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
F.I.X. is a group for co-op members and fans of their Etsy shops and websites.
Fiber Indie eXperience is a cooperative of Indie artists who work together for the benefit of the whole by helping, encouraging, and promoting each other. We don’t see ourselves as “competitors in business” but as friends of a like mind with a passion for fiber. Each member has a small business in which they sell their fiber and fiber related handcrafted items concentrating on quality rather than quantity. When you shop with a F.I.X. member you can be sure of receiving a beautifully handcrafted item and all our members genuine appreciation for supporting a fellow co-op member.
“According to the dictionary, ‘indie’ is an informal version of the word independent. Although this definition is accurate, the word has come to mean more. For many, it has come to symbolize originality and forward-thinking. By this definition, indie is any business or designer that is not associated with a large company.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Pretty simple and basic isn't it.  Working together to get the job done.  I think Bob the Builder has the right idea.  (Sorry little ones around here, but it is true isn't it?)  So if you want to check it out or you have an Etsy shop and would be interested in joining us check out the following link, because we would be glad to have you.

Fall Fiber Festival

I live in a small town and they always seem to be looking for something to attract people here for business, but when you don't have much to offer sometimes that isn't going to work.  They also have a hard to supporting the businesses they have so I thought, "Why not do something that will help the town, but won't require a great deal of overhead."  Thus was born the Fall Fiber Festival.  You see them all over the place these days.  They are fairs for those of us interested in fiber and fiber arts.  What could be better then the opportunity to pet fiber and learn some new techniques and information?  Nothing!  That is what I figured too so here we go with our very first Harvey Fall Fiber Festival.  It isn't going to be anything really fancy beings this is the first year and we need to work all the kinks out, but it will be a fun day for all those interested in fiber.  I figured I would post our schedule for all to see and if you are in the neighborhood feel free to drop in.

Aug. 14th from 10am to 6 pm
Combing (Lydia) 10AM to 11AM (Hands on.  I would bring your combs if you want to learn.)
Hand Carding (Shayne) 11AM to Noon (Hands on. I will bring some cards as well and others should bring theirs too if they have some to learn on.)
BREAK FOR DINNER
Drum Carding (Leslie & Lydia) 1 to 2PM (I will bring two drum carders to use and then people will get a chance to try them out.)
Blending Fiber on Hackle (Lydia) 2PM to 3PM DEMO

These next two will run at the same time so a person will have to pick which one they are interested in.

Spinning Art Yarn on Wheel (Leslie) 3PM to 5PM (Hands on.  You will need to bring your own wheel to spin along)
Spindling (Shelley or Shayne) 3PM to 5PM (Hands on and will require a spindle, I will have a few there if some don’t have them)
Games for all and Spinning together 5PM to 6PM

Hope to see quite a few and working on some new items for next years festival already.  This would not have been possible at all if it was not for those willing to demonstrate as well as those who helped in the background.  Thank you so much ladies.
